Resume - Is Your Contact Information Costing You Interviews?
Don't let your chances of scoring antidepressants interview get lost at the top! Are you aware that some electronic resume systems only show your next boss the top third of the first page for free? To see more, he or she will have to pay - which means you need to show them enough in that top third to make them want to read more. If your contact information is 5 lines long, they may never get to see your good stuff.
Depending on the size type you use, putting everything on a separate line - your name, street address, phone number, and email - can easily fill a quarter of the page. That doesn't leave much room left for you to tout your accomplishments! A better idea is to center your name on the first line, then use left, right, and center tabs to fit the rest of the information on 1 or 2 lines underneath.
To really make the most of the top third of the first page:
If consolidate student loans a recent grad or a career changer, make sure your objective follows this snappy format: "A [type of job] position in the [appropriate industry term] industry using my [insert your best] skills."
If you have experience and are looking for a job similar to the one you have, you don't need an objective statement - which means you can get right to the summary statement. Your summary should describe you as a professional, using one or two adjectives (A bright and energetic Business Analyst ...) and/or convey the number of years experience you have (...with 8 years of experience in the health care industry) . Then describe your strongest skills and talents and provide a few bullet-point highlights.
